Yalla! You handpick your own seafood and fish at their fish market, some of which are still flapping around. Then you either have it served in their harbor-side terrace (at a service premium) or take it to their cafeteria and have it served in there. Which, mind you, is nothing more than 10 plastic tables with seats to match. Prepare to wait in line, this place is busy. Which is, as one who travels should know, a good thing!

At the cafeteria they will advise you how that particular piece of fish/seafood is best prepared, or give you 2, 3 options to choose from: Spicy or not, steamed or grilled. Etc. Trust them, they know.

We had butterflied snapper grilled with a fiery spicy paste. Meaty yet delicate, not too oily, not too bland. Grilling gave it a smoky char, crisp edges, and a faint bitterness that plays beautifully with the Emirati paste. Probably red chili, cumin, garlic, coriander seed, maybe a hint of turmeric. It’s hot, yes, but balanced to complement and not overpower the fish.

And steamed spiny lobster with broiled cheese and chopped celery. Fatty yes, but the perfect flavor profile to let the delicate sweet & slightly saline flesh of the lobster shine. Beautiful!!
